About the internship
Program's Description
This intensive professional training internship is designed for individuals who are serious about developing a long-term career in marine biology, conservation science, ocean research, or eco-tourism management. Unlike traditional internships, this program functions as a structured learning pathway where participants receive internationally recognised PADI dive certifications, conduct real ecological fieldwork, and train directly under marine biologists working within the Coral Triangle.
The program is based in Nusa Penida, home to some of Indonesia’s most vibrant reef systems. The ocean becomes an active classroom in which interns refine their scientific understanding while building the diving competencies required for underwater research and conservation practice. Daily immersion in the marine environment allows participants to observe, analyse, and contribute to ongoing restoration and monitoring efforts with professional guidance.
Who is this program for?
This program is intended for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals who are preparing for advanced study or employment in fields related to:
• Marine Biology
• Environmental Science
• Conservation and Sustainability Studies
• Coastal and Marine Resource Management
• Ecotourism and Responsible Tourism Development
• Community-Based Environmental Outreach
• Scientific Research, Ecological Monitoring, and Restoration
The program welcomes both beginners and certified divers. Full scuba training is incorporated for participants who have not yet completed their PADI levels, ensuring everyone can meet the required standards for research and restoration dives.
Program Format and Cost Structure
This is a fee-based professional certification internship, reflecting the extensive resources required for safe and scientifically meaningful underwater training.
Program fees cover:
• PADI scuba diving certifications delivered by qualified instructors
• Supervision and teaching by marine biologists and conservation professionals
• Daily access to dive boats, equipment, and safety support
• Field-based ecological and species monitoring activities
• Coral restoration training at active nursery sites
• Lectures, workshops, and megafauna study sessions in partnership with conservation organisations
• Accommodation in Nusa Penida
• Direct contribution to the management of the local marine protected area
The tuition fee is determined by program duration and follows the official pricing set by the host organisation. In addition to this, Bali Internships implements a coordination fee and a registration fee which support academic handling, supervision, placement management, and student support throughout the program.
This integrated format ensures that participants receive not only practical research experience but also the essential diving qualifications and scientific exposure required for future professional roles in the marine conservation sector.
