We sat with Merlin, a global project and change management student of Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands, he shared his experience of a 3 months internship experience with an Environmental Consulting Company which focuses on, research, consultation, and capacity development of the environment, sustainability, climate change, green economy, and renewable energy.

During my internship, I had the privilege of witnessing the incredible flexibility and output-oriented nature of my organization. It was truly refreshing to have the freedom to work on my own terms and cultivate a sense of autonomy. Little did I know that this experience would ignite a newfound passion for technology within me. Initially, I approached it with skepticism, but my exposure to blockchain and sustainable technologies completely changed my perspective. I was amazed by their immense potential and the increasing importance they held in various fields. It became clear to me that embracing these technologies sooner rather than later was not just beneficial but necessary.
What made my internship truly exceptional was that it provided me with not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience in the field. I quickly realized that reading about a subject can only take you so far. The real challenges lie in implementing plans on the ground and adapting to unforeseen obstacles. This practical perspective deepened my understanding of sustainable development and its real-world implications. Problem-solving and adaptability became invaluable skills that I gained during my time as an intern. For me, this internship held an extra layer of significance—it was a return to my roots as a half-Balinese. Bali was not just a foreign destination; it was home, the island held my family, friends, and cherished memories.

The internship program aligned perfectly with my interests, offering me the opportunity to learn, grow, and even pursue my thesis. It was a chance for me to encourage others to experience the same, to explore their passions and find their rightful place within it. Throughout my internship journey, I encountered a diverse range of experiences, from installing biogas digesters to decoding interviews, every task brought its own set of challenges and rewards. One particular memory that stands out is when I was tasked with assembling a biogas digester. At first, I was unfamiliar with the process, but with the guidance of my coach, I not only gained practical knowledge but also witnessed the tangible results of sustainable technology in action. On the other hand, decoding interviews proved to be a tedious but necessary task, emphasizing the importance of attention to detail and accuracy.
My transformative experience has shown me the immeasurable benefits of embarking on an internship journey abroad.
