Internship Programs in Bali

Internship at the Children's Home in Jimbaran

As part of her study program Julia from Germany had to do an internship. To make this experience unforgettable she eventually decided to complete her internship abroad. With her decision to come to Bali and support the children home in Jimbaran she not only met her internship requirements but also had the chance to do something good and support children in need.

Let's go abroad

As part of my studies, I had to complete an internship. Since I have been playing for a long time with the idea of going abroad again for a longer period of time, I thought that I could catch two birds with a swat. Why not do an internship abroad?! After long research I ended up on the website of a partner agency of Bali Internships and could find a perfect project for me. After I had devoted myself more and more to the project, it was clear to me: That is it! - 8 weeks volunteer work at the orphanage Jimbaran on the dream island of Bali (the volunteer work was even counted by my college as an internship).

I quickly put together the necessary documentation and applied for it. It did not take long and they sent me the confirmation for my dream project. Now it was time to wait and try to fill the suitcase with all I could possibly need. I could not wait for it and was very excited because I had never been alone so long - and especially so far away from Germany.

Destination Bali reached

After a long flight, I landed (finally!) in Bali. I was picked up at the airport by a driver from the partner organization and brought directly to the student house. There I was warmly welcomed by the other volunteers, who introduced me into everything in the first days and showed me, what is important for the life in Bali. Thus, the first routes were driven by the scooter, which, by the way, were very much needed at first, because left-hand drive and a lot of cars and scooters made it not easier. But you have quickly become accustomed to scooter riding. So I could hardly wait to get to know the orphanage family.

Warm welcome

I will never forget the sweet greeting from a little girl who stood at the entrance gate of the orphanage and stretched out her hand through the gate. When I got back, she took my hand and led me into the house. Immediately I had closed the little mouse into my heart and felt very good from the very first moment on. After a first sniffing I gave the children the toys I brought from Germany. The joy was tremendous.

Fantastic island

In addition to working in the orphanage, I had enough free time to explore the fantastic island. On the weekends we packed our backpacks, and traveled around Bali with the scooter and could enjoy the different landscapes very much and get to know the people and culture. Bali is a fantastic island with the nicest, most open and warmest people. It is very worth to travel this dream island!

Finally, I would like to say that I would recommend this small, very familial orphanage to anyone who enjoys working with children.
