Internship Programs in Bali

Carina & Noemie in the Denpasar Children Home

As part of their studies in Germany Carina and Noémie had to complete an internship. To make the most out of this experience, they decided to go abroad for this internship. For 8 weeks the two girls supported the children home in Denpasar, which takes care of underprivileged boys from Bali and other islands of Indonesia. Despite some struggles in the beginning they really enjoyed their time in the project and had "the best experience" they could have hoped for! Learn more about Carina's and Noémie's experiences in Bali.

How it all began...

For my studies in Germany I had to do an in internship and so I began to think about going abroad for a longer time, to work there as a teacher. Through Baliinternships I felt safe and so I dared to take the step to Indonesia.

After a very long flight my friend (Noémie) and I finally arrived at the airport in Denpasar. Our driver picked us up and drove us directly to our volunteer house in Sanur. This volunteer house became our new home for the upcoming 8 weeks. As we arrived at the house, two other Boys even lived there right now. They welcomed us warm hearted and it was really nice with them. The boys helped us very much at the beginning and we had a great time together. I will never forget these two.

The volunteer project

Noémie and I worked together in the Children home for underprivileged boys in Denpasar. On the first day I was very nervous because I didn’t know the boys and I had no idea how they would react to me. Honestly, the first time was not easy because the boys had holidays at this time and I think that this was the main reason why they were so unmotivated. But we still tried our best and with the time it got better and better and for the guys it became routine.

Then the holidays ended and the school started again. The Boys were really tired after school and our study program didn’t work anymore. I think that this is very normal because when I was a kid my behavior after holidays was the same. So we talked to our coordinator Rifka and she was every time a helping hand for us. The whole Baliinternships-Team are such warm hearted people and they help whenever they can. Together with Rifka and Larissa we found some new methods and what should I say…it worked. From now on we had such a great time with the boys. We bought a new game and a football for them and they were so thankfully.

I loved my work in the Children home and for my study in Germany it was the best experience that I could have done. The Boys, Ibu Budi and the owner of the Orphanage really come close to my heart. I was very sad to leave them and I will miss them so much. Through this Project I’ve really learned to go to my limits and to don’t give up. Everything in life takes its time.

Even if we had ups and downs Noémie and I had such a great time here together and I would especially like to thank Bali Internships for making this possible for us.

Beautiful Bali

Last but no least I would like to write something about Bali. Bali was a breathtaking adventure for me. I have never seen such unbelievable sunsets, views or beaches before. Also the people are so much different than Germans and I think we could learn a lot of “how to live life” from Balinese people.

At the weekends we did many trips and I had so many experiences in eight weeks as never before in my life. The temples, the rice fields, the mentality – the whole life here. It has enchanted me and I will never forget this journey.

I could write so much about Bali and also the little Islands all around like the Gili’s or Nusa Lembongan for example, but I think you have to visit this Islands yourself to understand this feeling. I am very in love with you Bali and I hope to see you soon.
