Supporting as a Volunteer at Children Home in Jimbaran, Bali
"Bali life as a volunteer has given me such a different view on life today. I realized that it is not the amount of money that counts what makes you happy, but your attitude towards life" Hannah, Ratsgymnasium Bielefeld, Germany
Arriving in Bali
Early this year on January, I part-take to volunteer in a Children Home for two months in Bali, Indonesia. I had no expectations nor ideas of how my trip to would be like, but now I can for sure say that it was one of the best times of my life!
After I landed in Bali, I was picked up with the staff from Bali Internships and was directly brought to the volunteer's house in Ungasan, Bali. Although we had some issues with the house during the time I stayed there, it was a nice place to stay, where I met all my new friends, therefore it will always have a special meaning to me. I arrived on Wednesday and my project started on Monday, so I had a good amount of time to settle in and get used to the Bali’s heat during the weekend.
Volunteer Routines
The Children Home is a home created by a wonderful woman called Ibu Ine, for her 12 children from the age of 1 to 16. Volunteers daily tasks are helping with main domestic tasks in the house such as: preparing lunch boxes, taking care of the children before and after school, preparing and doing craft work, give languages lessons such as German and English. Other off the house task would be driving the children to school and picking them up. So for everyone who wish to come to Bali and support this home, you must be able to ride scooter and possess international driver's license. When I first arrived in Bali I thought I would never be able to drive scooter, nor be brave enough, but after the first days I practice, it is definitely not as hard as it looks but actually a lot of fun! During the time in the children home, I learned to love the kids and it was hard for me to say goodbye since I spent so much time with them.
Volunteer Weekends
During my free time I went to the beautiful beaches around and spent a lot of time with my roommates. On weekends we had free time, so we will stroll around Bali and it felt like a never-ending holiday to me although I worked during the weeks. I already miss Bali so much and I will for sure come back as soon as possible.
Being in Bali has given me a new perspective of life
I could say it has given me such a different view on life after supporting there as a volunteer. When I saw how happy, open, and loving all the Balinese people, I realized that it is not the amount of money that counts what makes you happy, but your own attitude towards life. If you choose to be happy, you can be!
Thank you Bali Internships for helping me find my place in Bali and for being there when I needed help. It was such an amazing experience which I will never forget as has changed me for good.
