My Journey of Self-Development in Bali, as a Volunteer in a Wild and Nature Conservation

One of my favorite experiences so far
Bali was one of my favorite experiences, so far in my life, it was a fun way to learn to grow up and be on my own. Bali and the sea turtle conservation project had helped me in so many ways; especially with my social interaction skills, knowing that I was originally a timid and a hesitant individual. Along with the project, I was given the opportunity to grow and change. But the most importantly was the fact that I got more confident with and about myself. I think when you work for something, it’s important to know your priority and focus on self-development as well.

Bali’s Cultural and Religious Side
During my voluntary work program in the turtle conservation and education NGO, I was fortunate to get the first contact with the local community through my work and duties as a volunteer. People around me showed me different ways of living through selflessness, loyalty, and prayers. I am very grateful to see the true colors of Bali with its rituals, festivals, and historical cultures. For example, small offerings can be seen sitting almost everywhere: hotels, resorts, and by the roadside. Balinese carries out their religious obligations with pride and everyone takes part, from the children to elders, and in certain events or occasions, everyone would dress immaculately for the temple. At the turtle project through my interactions and observation of my fellow Balinese co-workers, I was introduced and informed about how the Balinese practice and embodied their culture and Hinduism in a way thatmoves me.

Bali’s Natural Beauty and Diverse Culture
Having the privilege to stay quite some months on this island, I was able to travel the island enough to experience and intake its energy. Bali cleanses my soul and helps flow all the negativity away. It is everything you imagine it to be with its wealth of natural beauty and diverse culture. Nature, the people, the sea, the traditions, the food, everything is so much different compared to where I am from. All I miss about home was just my friends and family but I also found new families in Bali. Now, whenever I think back of Bali, I really miss the time spent there and I always think about coming back. Bali was a way to fluid myself from reality, it was a loving place where I could be myself.
