Internship Programs in Bali

Interview with Antonin:

From Coding to Conservation My Volunteering Journey in Bali

With a background in computer engineering and a specialization in cybersecurity and cloud computing at EFREI Paris-Panthéon-Assas, Antonin never imagined that his passion for technology would lead him to the shores of Bali—not for coding, but for conservation. Driven by a deep sense of responsibility toward environmental preservation, he set aside his usual world of algorithms and security systems to volunteer at a turtle conservation center. Here’s his story…

Hello everyone, my name is Antonin. Allow me to share my memorable volunteering experience through this article. Environmental conservation has always been my lifelong passion. So, when I discovered the opportunity to volunteer at a turtle conservation center in Bali through Bali Internships, I knew it was the perfect way to contribute to a meaningful cause while experiencing a different culture. My background is in computer engineering, specializing in cybersecurity and cloud computing at EFREI Paris-Panthéon-Assas, but I have always believed in using my skills and time to make a difference beyond my field of study.

Discovering the Program

I found the Turtle Conservation Program through Volunteer World, a well-known platform that connects volunteers with various projects worldwide. Bali Internships played a crucial role in linking me to the conservation center and ensuring everything was well-organized before my arrival. From my first interaction with the Bali Internships team, I felt confident about my choice. They provided detailed information about the program, the accommodation arrangements in Sanur, and what to expect during my time in Bali. Their professionalism and support made the entire process smooth and stress-free.

Life at the Turtle Conservation Center

The conservation center focuses on protecting sea turtles from illegal trade and environmental threats while educating the community and international visitors about the importance of conservation. The work being done here is incredible—small or injured turtles are cared for in saltwater pools until they are strong enough to be released back into the ocean.

My daily activities involved feeding the turtles, cleaning their pools, assisting with data collection, and helping with educational programs for visitors. The hands-on experience was rewarding, as I could see firsthand how these efforts contribute to the turtles' survival. One of the most fulfilling moments was witnessing a turtle release, knowing that the work we did helped them return safely to their natural habitat.

Experiencing Bali Beyond Volunteering

Outside the conservation work, there was plenty of time to explore Bali, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a beautiful and vibrant destination. During my free time, I visited stunning beaches, iconic temples, and even took a trip to see Bali’s famous volcano. The island offers so much to do, from cultural experiences to breathtaking natural landscapes. I also appreciated the warmth and kindness of the Balinese people. Despite the cultural differences from my home in France, I always felt welcomed and supported. Whether at the conservation center or in the local community, people were always friendly and eager to share their traditions and stories.

A Well-Supported and Memorable Experience

Looking back, this volunteer experience was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It gave me a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts and the impact individuals can have when they come together for a cause.  For anyone considering volunteering in Bali, I highly recommend Bali Internships. They provide valuable programs that not only allow volunteers to contribute to important causes but also create unforgettable experiences in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
